Bookbinding at Mackintosh at the Willow
Event Location:
Mackintosh at the Willow, 215-217 Sauchiehall Street, Glasgow, G2 3EX, Scotland
Event Description
As a huge fan of Charles Rennie Mackintosh, I am very excited to be teaching a day long workshop at the beautifully and faithfully restored Mackintosh at the Willow.
Our day together will start with a tour of the space before we settle in to make two books inspired by the man himself. Both books will use a technique often called Japanese stab binding – which feels very appropriate given Mackintosh’s own love of Japanese style and design, seen in much of his work. One will be a traditional style binding and the other more modern, with a pattern I’ve designed specifically for the day and based off Mackintosh’s work. Both will incorporate covers with art nouveau images from Charles Rennie Mackintosh’s work.
We’ll be spoiled culinarily as well as by our inspirational surrounds: a soup and sandwich lunch as well as afternoon tea/coffee with scones will be provided by the venue.
Fee includes lunch and scones, tour, materials needed, and tools to use for the day. No experience is necessary, though those with some experience in bookbinding are very welcome.
If you have any food allergies or access requirements, please contact me as soon as possible so we can make required arrangements.
Please note this class is not suitable for children.
