Description

My studio overlooks the Sound of Iona and the neighbouring Isle of Mull, just over a mile across the water.

On a particularly misty autumn day the fog lay in a way that I had not seen before – perfectly sitting behind the small skerry of rocks directly across from us and veiling the rest of Mull. Though we are often visually cut off from Mull in inclement weather, seeing just this wee shoal somehow made it feel more remote.

This change in perspective inspired this layered book, with different angles and heights, forming the valley- and mountain-shaped pages. This could be displayed as a paper sculpture, or use the blank pages as a sketchbook or journal. Hopefully the unique page shapes will encourage equally atypical thoughts and drawings.

The book is 21.5cm at the tallest point, 15cm at the shortest, 11cm wide and over 2cm thick. The pages have a deckled edge and are made of lightly textured sketchbook grade paper.
