I’m chuffed and a bit flabbergasted to have been chosen as one of the 16 makers from across Scotland and Northern Ireland to participate in a brilliant new project with National Museum of Scotland and National Museums of Northern Ireland.
We’re getting the chance to see behind the scenes in the archives of both museums, with the remit to create new work inspired by the shared history of the two countries. The collected pieces will then be exhibited in the National Museum of Scotland in 2027 and Ulster Museum in 2028.
We’ve already spent time with objects ranging from the mesolithic to medieval periods here in Scotland. I’m looking forward to seeing more in January in Belfast, and to see where this research and historical inspiration will take my bindings.
Huge thanks to curators Sarah Rothwell and Kim Mawhinney and the many others in Edinburgh and Belfast who are sharing their time and expertise with us over the next year.
This project is a collaboration between National Museums Scotland, National Museums NI, Design Nation, Craft NI and Craft Scotland. It is generously funded by the William Grant Foundation, Flure Grossart, and Kennedy Ting.
